Some Days around Spitzkoppe
This presentation describes 2 days in the Spitzkoppe Region starting from our wild campsite nearby in the morning to an overnight stay @Spitzkoppe Lodge with sunset and some rock-pics next morning before leaving towards Windhuk.
Spitzkoppe rock formed approximately 700 million years ago through intrusions, a process in which magma penetrated the Earth's crust but did not reach the surface. Erosion by wind and sand subsequently wore away the surrounding rock, leaving the hard granite standing.
During the colonial era, German observers noted the resemblance of the peak to the Matterhorn in Switzerland and named it Spitzkoppe.
It is a famous film and photography location, particularly its famous "Rock Arch" — frequently serves as a backdrop for film and photography, including for Stanley Kubrick’s *2001: A Space Odyssey*
